“India-UK Partnership Workshop Paves the Way for Sustainable Green Hydrogen Growth”

This workshop marked a key step forward in strengthening India-UK cooperation on green hydrogen production, regulations, and innovation, according to an official statement released on Thursday.

BSI Energy Sector Lead Abbey Dorian highlighted the importance of this collaboration, stating, “The India-UK Standards Partnership Workshop on Green Hydrogen represents a significant milestone in promoting international cooperation for clean energy transitions. It reflects the critical role of knowledge exchange, standardisation, and technological innovation in building a sustainable and robust hydrogen market.”

Dorian also emphasized the aligned vision of the two nations, adding, “India and the UK are united in their ambition to become global leaders in the green hydrogen sector, working together toward a net-zero emissions future.”

This workshop is part of the UK government’s larger Standards Partnership programme, which aims to promote the integration of international standards in India to fuel economic growth, attract foreign investments, and enhance trade relations. Key discussions focused on the development of safe, scalable, and globally harmonised regulations, codes, and standards (RCS). The workshop also explored the accelerated adoption of fast-track Publicly Available Specification (PAS) standards and global hydrogen certification frameworks.

According to IANS , the initiative is closely aligned with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and supports BIS’s efforts to develop a world-class green hydrogen ecosystem. The event helped identify gaps in existing standards, explore potential areas for development, and connect with international experts. Insights gained from global best practices will enhance India’s capabilities in certification, testing, and standardisation, driving the growth of a sustainable and globally competitive green hydrogen economy.

The workshop featured in-depth discussions involving policymakers, industry leaders, and technical experts from both India and the UK. It was inaugurated by Rajiv Sharma, Deputy Director General (Standardisation-I) of BIS, Laura Aylett, Head of Climate and Energy at the British High Commission, and Abbey Dorian, BSI’s Energy Sector Lead. Their presence underscored the joint commitment of India and the UK to fostering innovation and sustainability in the green hydrogen space.

Through this strategic collaboration, India and the UK aim to advance global sustainable energy solutions while achieving their shared goals of environmental sustainability and economic progress.
