Guidebook for trade

IN the story of modern India, few lives so powerfully embody the triumph of determination, service, and innovation as that of Dr Yogesh Lakhani, Chairman and Managing Director of Bright Outdoor Media.

Born on September 25, 1963, his journey from humble beginnings to becoming a global icon of the advertising and media industry stands as an extraordinary testament to the strength of human will. As he celebrates his 62nd birthday this year, Dr Lakhani’s life serves as a living inspiration for the youth of India – an example of how grit, perseverance, and a sense of purpose can transform struggles into milestones of glory.

Humble roots and limitless dreams

Dr Lakhani’s early years were marked by hardship. Growing up in financial struggle, his family often found it difficult to even pay hospital bills. Yet, rather than surrendering to limitations, he transformed adversity into motivation. As a child, he sold newspapers and firecrackers to support his family, while nurturing an undying love for cinema. This passion, coupled with a burning desire to achieve, drove him into the world of advertising.

His first breakthrough came with a modest billboard at Malad Railway Station. What seemed like a small step then, became the foundation of a remarkable empire. Guided by honesty, persistence, and foresight, Dr Lakhani steadily grew his business, landing major clients across industries. A landmark moment arrived when he secured the prestigious Manikchand deal for the Filmfare Awards – a move that announced Bright Outdoor Media’s arrival on the national stage.

What began as one small billboard soon expanded into one of India’s largest outdoor media empires. Today, Bright Outdoor Media is synonymous with trust, innovation, and scale, serving over one lakh clients. Under his leadership, the company has transformed Mumbai’s skyline with modern digital LED billboards.

A beacon of resilience, vision and nation-building

In March 2023, Dr Lakhani made history by becoming the first to list an outdoor advertising company on the Bombay Stock Exchange. Inspired by global marvels like Times Square in New York and Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, he has been instrumental in modernising India’s outdoor advertising landscape.

Dr Lakhani’s journey has not only elevated his industry but has also showcased India’s talent on the global map. This year, he proudly represented India at two iconic events – as a distinguished guest at President Donald Trump’s oath-taking ceremony, and walking the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival.

Firm commitment to social responsibility

While his professional success is awe-inspiring, Dr Lakhani’s greatness lies equally in his unwavering commitment to social responsibility. He has established free dialysis centres, supported blood donation camps, fed the underprivileged, and distributed educational resources to needy students.

The Guidebook marks a pivotal milestone in the journey of India towards Viksit Bharat@2047 by serving as a catalyst for sharper policy interventions and effective trade negotiations through mapping of products to their relevant Ministries and Departments.

His contributions also deeply resonate with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Developed India (Viksit Bharat). By pioneering sustainable advertising solutions such as solar-powered billboards, digitising urban spaces, and generating mass employment, he has become a vital contributor to India’s growth story. With over 10,000 awards to his credit, Dr Lakhani’s leadership has been celebrated worldwide. He holds two honorary doctorates – one from Sorbonne University, France, and another from the Royal American University, USA.

Rooted in his Jain values, Dr Lakhani has always supported spiritual and social organisations, embodying inclusivity and respect for all faiths. Alongside his public commitments, he remains a devoted family man – sharing life’s journey with his wife Jagruti and son Anugrah.

Dr Lakhani’s journey is a resounding affirmation that no dream is too big for those who dare to persist.
