Equities · Previous Close :Seven Sessions Down, on a Shrinking Slide
The Sensex closed Wednesday at 76,909.68, down 325.78 points or 0.42 per cent from 77,235.46, and the Nifty at 24,078.30, down 76.60 or 0.32 per cent from 24,154.90 — a seventh consecutive fall. Tuesday’s loss was 493 points and 0.63 per cent. The streak is lengthening as the daily decline narrows.

Rates · RBI : Repo Held at 5.25, Growth Forecast Raised
The Monetary Policy Committee held the repo rate at 5.25 per cent unanimously on 5 August and kept the stance neutral, while raising the FY27 GDP growth forecast to 6.7 per cent. CPI for FY27 is projected at 5.0 per cent, with the peak expected in the third quarter before easing.

Prices · MoSPI :Retail Inflation at 4.45 Per Cent
July CPI inflation was 4.45 per cent against 4.38 in June, a rise of seven basis points and the highest print in 19 months. Food inflation at 5.52 per cent ran 107 basis points above the headline. Housing inflation was far lower at 2.22 per cent, which is what keeps the core contained.

Investment · DPIIT : Singapore Sends a Third of India’s FDI
Singapore was India’s largest FDI source in 2025-26 at $19.8 billion, 33.6 per cent of total inflows of $58.85 billion, which were themselves 18 per cent above FY25. Cumulative Singapore equity since April 2000 stands at $194.68 billion, or 24.72 per cent of the all-time total, ahead of Mauritius at $186.8 billion.

Automobiles · SIAM : Record July Across Every Segment
Passenger vehicle dispatches rose 34.34 per cent to 4,57,810 units, two-wheelers 22.58 per cent to 19,23,483 and three-wheelers 33.37 per cent to 92,560. Total production across PVs, 2Ws, 3Ws and quadricycles reached 33,70,958 units. Mopeds led growth at 48.6 per cent.

Financial Services · GIFT City : IFSC Assets Cross $111 Billion
Assets at GIFT International Financial Services Centre have passed $111 billion across international banking, capital markets, asset management and financial services. IFSCA continues to register intermediaries under the Capital Market Intermediaries Regulations, 2025, including a US-linked investment banking registration granted on 31 July 2026.

Semiconductors · ISM : Three of Twelve Approved Fabs Now Operating
Three of the twelve commercial semiconductor facilities approved under the India Semiconductor Mission are operational as of August 2026, with two to three expected to begin commercial production by the end of the year and the rest in 2027 and 2028. Semicon India 2026 runs 17-19 September at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka.

Bilateral · West Asia : India-UAE Trade Holds Above $100 Billion
Bilateral trade under the India-UAE CEPA reached $101.25 billion in 2025-26, above $100 billion for the second consecutive year and five years ahead of the original target. Non-oil trade is now close to two-thirds of the total, and the two sides have set $200 billion by 2032 as the next marker.

Energy · Renewables : 288.58 GW Installed, 211.42 GW to Find
Installed renewable capacity stood at 288.58 GW in June 2026 — solar 162.15, wind 57.44, hydro 57.24, bio-power 11.75. The 2030 non-fossil target of 500 GW implies roughly 47 GW of additions a year. MNRE’s 2026-27 allocation is ₹44,614.67 crore, up 40.52 per cent.

Agri-Exports · DGFT : Makhana Gets Its First Year of Real Data
A separate customs code for popped makhana, created in 2025, produced the first product-specific export series: 7,264.89 MT worth ₹19,296.08 lakh in 2025-26. The United States, Canada and the UAE take 77 per cent of volume at the lowest unit prices in the book; Germany pays 33 per cent more per kilogram than the United States.

Trade Policy · Europe : India-EU Agreement Awaits Ratification
Negotiations on the India-EU free trade agreement concluded in New Delhi on 27 January 2026 after talks first launched in 2007. Legal scrubbing and translation into all EU languages come next, then Council signature, European Parliament consent and Indian ratification. The separate Investment Protection Agreement remains unagreed.

Consumption · Media : August Box Office Past $925 Million
India’s domestic box office has crossed $925 million in August, exceeding the full-month gross of every August from 2017 to 2025. Hindi titles hold 40.4 per cent of the month’s share and Tamil titles 40.2 — a near-parity that has not previously been recorded in a peak month.
