The e-Shram portal completes five years on 26 August 2026 with 31.89 crore registrations, 54.28 per cent of them women. Recomputed across the 1,826 days since launch, that is about 1.75 lakh registrations a day, every day, for five years.
Gig economy : Platform Workers at 0.36 Per Cent
About 11.5 lakh platform and gig workers are registered on e-Shram — 0.36 per cent of all registrations, recomputed. For an industry that plans its labour supply on aggregate numbers, the database is not yet the place to find it.
Public sector : Four Rail PSUs in One Para
The Comptroller and Auditor General’s Audit Report No. 14 of 2026 records that CONCOR, IRCON, IRCTC and RailTel made inadmissible payments of ₹20.54 crore as ex-gratia or performance-related pay to deputationists, in violation of Department of Public Enterprises guidelines.
Manufacturing : A Factory Closed After Five Years
The same report records that the Diesel Loco Component Factory at Dankuni, set up at a cost of ₹266 crore in 2012-13, was closed with effect from January 2018, and that machinery and plant worth ₹93.40 crore procured for it were declared surplus because they were specific to diesel locomotive components.
Agriculture spending : Drip Takes a Third of the Scheme
Of ₹8,957.72 crore released or approved for the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana in 2025-26, ₹3,226.36 crore was dedicated to Per Drop More Crop — 36.02 per cent, recomputed. The scheme reached 12.30 lakh farmers that year.
Fiscal : Two Deficit Figures, One Year
The fiscal deficit shown in Budget at a Glance 2026-27 is ₹15.74 lakh crore; the figure calculated per the FRBM Act from the Union Government Finance Accounts 2024-25 is ₹14.70 lakh crore. The difference is ₹1.04 lakh crore, or 7.07 per cent, recomputed.
