National Accounts : The Quarter’s Number Comes Today
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has scheduled its press release of quarterly gross domestic product estimates for the first quarter of 2026-27 for 31 August 2026, a date the ministry itself fixed in its provisional estimates note. The same release will carry annual and quarterly national accounts revised to incorporate the new index of industrial production and wholesale price series with base year 2022-23.
Output : Real GDP at ₹323.12 Lakh Crore
Real gross domestic product for 2025-26 is estimated at ₹323.12 lakh crore at constant 2022-23 prices, against a first revised estimate of ₹299.89 lakh crore for 2024-25. Nominal gross domestic product is estimated at ₹346.36 lakh crore against ₹318.07 lakh crore, the ministry’s provisional estimates show.
Value Added : Nominal GVA Grew 9.1 Per Cent
Nominal gross value added is estimated at ₹314.87 lakh crore for 2025-26 against ₹288.54 lakh crore the previous year, a growth of 9.1 per cent. Real gross value added is estimated at ₹294.91 lakh crore against ₹273.36 lakh crore, a growth of 7.9 per cent as against 7.3 per cent in 2024-25.
Automobiles : Commercial Vehicles Up 12.6 Per Cent
Sales of commercial vehicles rose 12.6 per cent over 2025-26 and 19.0 per cent in the fourth quarter, on the indicators annexed to the provisional estimates. Three-wheeler sales rose 12.8 per cent over the year and 26.7 per cent in the quarter. Goods transport vehicle registrations rose 18.3 per cent over the year.
Capital Goods : Machinery Imports Rose 19.3 Per Cent
Imports of machinery and equipment grew 19.3 per cent over 2025-26 and 24.9 per cent in the fourth quarter — among the sharpest movements in the ministry’s indicator annexure, and the kind of number that usually precedes capacity rather than follows it. Exports of goods and services grew 9.3 per cent over the year.
Revenue : Customs Duty Collections Up 13.5 Per Cent
Customs duty grew 13.5 per cent over 2025-26 and union excise 13.9 per cent, while central goods and services tax grew 6.4 per cent, the indicator annexure shows. Fertiliser subsidy, covering urea and nutrient-based fertiliser, rose 21.7 per cent over the year and 44.2 per cent in the fourth quarter.
