Google Expands Access to Gemini 2.0 AI Models, Unlocking New Potential for Developers

The company is now providing access to Gemini 2.0 Flash, while an experimental version of its most powerful model yet, Gemini 2.0 Pro, is being released for select users. Known for its exceptional coding capabilities and ability to handle complex prompts, the new model can be accessed on Google AI Studio, Vertex AI, and the Gemini app for Advanced users.

Additionally, Google has launched Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite, its most cost-effective model to date, now available in public preview via Google AI Studio and Vertex AI. Desktop and mobile users of the Gemini app can also access the experimental 2.0 Flash Thinking model directly from the dropdown menu.

According to IANS , Koray Kavukcuoglu, CTO of Google DeepMind, made the announcement on behalf of the Gemini team, emphasizing the company’s continued efforts to expand AI capabilities while ensuring secure and responsible use.

Google said it is implementing robust safety protocols as the Gemini model family evolves, including automated red teaming to assess and mitigate security risks. One key focus is addressing indirect prompt injection attacks, a form of cyber threat where malicious instructions are embedded within data that an AI system may retrieve.

In December, Google laid the foundation for what it calls the “agentic era” of AI by releasing an experimental version of Gemini 2.0 Flash. All models in the Gemini family support multimodal input with text output, with additional modalities expected to be generally available in the coming months.

The experimental Gemini 2.0 Pro model stands out with its superior performance in coding, advanced reasoning, and handling of complex queries. It features an expanded context window of 2 million tokens, allowing it to process and analyze vast datasets comprehensively. The model also includes the ability to call external tools such as Google Search and execute code, enhancing its problem-solving capabilities.

With these advancements, Google’s Gemini 2.0 AI models are set to drive a new wave of innovation, providing developers with more efficient, scalable, and secure AI tools for diverse applications.
