Business in Brief

Trade : Electronics Was July’s Fastest Line
India’s goods and services exports reached USD 80.14 billion in July 2026 from USD 70.72 billion, up 13.32 per cent. Within merchandise, electronic goods rose 57.4 per cent to USD 5.92 billion and petroleum products 67.64 per cent to USD 6.92 billion — two lines carrying the growth.

Manufacturing : ALMM Listing Now Four Years of Supply
Enlisted capacity under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers for solar PV modules has crossed 200 GW, from 2.3 GW in 2014. Against 44.6 GW of solar commissioned in 2025-26, this desk computes about 4.5 years of listed domestic supply against the current build rate.

Energy : A Record 55.29 GW Added in One Year
Non-fossil capacity reached 300.50 GW on 31 July 2026 — 54.44 per cent of a 552 GW installed base. Renewable generation rose from 190.96 billion units in 2014-15 to 477.79 BU in 2025-26, a 2.5-fold rise: capacity and output moving together, not apart.

Monetary Policy : Growth Up, Inflation Down, Peak Ahead
The MPC held the repo rate at 5.25 per cent on 5 August 2026, a fourth straight pause. It raised the FY27 growth forecast to 6.7 per cent and cut full-year CPI to 5.0 per cent, while flagging a 5.9 per cent peak in the October-December quarter.

Automobiles : Electric Cars Grew 83 Per Cent
Electric passenger vehicle registrations rose 83 per cent year on year in July 2026 to hold a 7.9 per cent segment share, on FADA data. Total EV retails hit a record 3,27,901 units. Commercial EVs nearly trebled their share, to 3.57 per cent.

Payments : Average UPI Payment: About ₹1,300
UPI carried 24,161.69 crore transactions worth about ₹314 lakh crore in FY 2025-26. This desk computes the average transaction at roughly ₹1,300 and daily volume at 66.2 crore. Person-to-merchant traffic is 63 per cent of volume but a minority of value.

Semiconductors : Semicon 2.0 Carries ₹1.27 Lakh Crore
The Union Cabinet approved the next phase of the Semicon India Programme on 15 July 2026 with an outlay of ₹1,27,500 crore, widening the mission from fabrication to equipment, materials, design intellectual property, supply chains and research centres.

Bilateral : Oman CEPA Clears 945 Textile Lines
The India–Oman CEPA, in force since 1 June 2026, gave Indian exporters immediate duty-free access on all 945 textile and apparel tariff lines, removing a 5 per cent MFN duty. Oman is the Gulf gateway reachable without transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

Aviation Finance : GIFT IFSC Courts the Lessors
India is positioning GIFT IFSC as an aircraft leasing and financing hub, with the second India Aircraft Leasing and Financing Summit held at GIFT City on 8 May 2026. The Modified UDAN scheme adds ₹28,840 crore of regional demand over ten years to FY36.

Agriculture : Sowing Deficit Narrowed to Three
Kharif acreage trailing last year by about 23 per cent at end-June had narrowed to roughly 3 per cent by end-July as the monsoon recovered. Pulses and coarse cereals still lag — the two baskets that matter most to food inflation in the December quarter.
