Sensex Closes Up 828 at 77,569 as IT, PSU Banks and Realty Drive a Broad Rally

Benchmark equities ended Friday firmly higher, with the Sensex up 828 points, or 1.08%, at 77,569.39 and the Nifty 50 gaining 244.10 points, or 1.02%, to close at 24,206.90 — a broad-based advance in which information-technology, public-sector bank and realty stocks led the tape after Tata Consultancy Services opened the earnings season.

The move built on the prior close of 76,741.82 on the Sensex and 23,962.80 on the Nifty, and rode a rebound in global chip stocks and a firmer risk tone across Asia. Nifty IT, PSU Bank and Realty were the standout sectoral gainers, with TCS, its large-cap IT peers and state-owned lenders among the day’s leaders.

Breadth, not a single heavyweight, carried this tape — IT re-rated on results, PSU banks and realty joined in, and domestic flows kept the floor firm.

By the Numbers
  • Sensex: 77,569.39 (+828, +1.08%)
  • Nifty 50: 24,206.90 (+244.10, +1.02%)
  • Leaders: Nifty IT, PSU Bank, Realty
  • Prior close: Sensex 76,741.82 · Nifty 23,962.80 (Jul 9)

The structural ballast held. Domestic institutional flows, fed by household systematic-investment plans, continue to absorb foreign selling and cap downside, while a firm growth backdrop and steady public finances keep the fundamentals under Indian equities intact.

Two variables frame the near term: the June-quarter earnings run, now under way, and the trade calendar — the UK CETA from July 15 and the July 24 US tariff deadline could move sentiment as much as any domestic data point. June retail inflation is due Monday.
