Rail services on a single digital track: New app set to transform Railway journey for millions

In a major technological leap forward under the Digital India initiative, the Ministry of Railways has launched RailOne — a unified, all-in-one super application that brings together all essential passenger services of Indian Railways under a single digital platform. Designed and developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), the app was officially unveiled by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on July 1 during the 40th Foundation Day celebrations of CRIS in New Delhi.

Positioned as an exemplary model of citizen-centric governance and digital empowerment, the RailOne app is set to redefine the travel experience for millions of railway passengers across India by integrating previously fragmented services into a seamless, intuitive interface.

Unified digital ecosystem for passengers
RailOne combines the functions of several existing applications — IRCTC Rail Connect, UTSonMobile, Rail Madad, NTES, and Food on Track — into one robust platform. From booking reserved and unreserved tickets, checking PNR status and live train tracking, to lodging complaints, ordering food, and arranging last-mile transport, RailOne covers the full spectrum of rail travel needs. Notably, passengers booking unreserved tickets or platform tickets through the R-Wallet feature receive a 3 per cent discount, encouraging digital adoption even in small towns and rural areas.

The app also supports multi-language access, biometric-based secure payments, real-time coach and platform data, and grievance redressal services — all in a single login, without the need to switch between apps.

Technological backbone for Bharat’s future
RailOne is part of a broader digital infrastructure revamp that includes the modernisation of the Passenger Reservation System (PRS), which is being upgraded to handle up to 150,000 ticket bookings and over 4 million enquiries per minute by the end of 2025.

Officials estimate that with Indian Railways serving over 2.3 crore passengers daily, the RailOne app will directly impact tens of millions of users every month, especially by simplifying the travel process and improving accessibility for digitally connected citizens across India.

“The RailOne app is not just a convenience tool — it’s a reflection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Digital India where Government services are accessible, inclusive, and transparent,” said a senior Railway Ministry official. “It brings together the might of Indian Railways and the power of technology in service of the common man.”

Game-changer for Rail passengers
RailOne’s seamless interface and integration of live tracking, R-Wallet, e-catering, and complaint management make it a game-changer in public service delivery. It is being hailed as the most comprehensive digital mobility platform for any public transport system in the world.

Early user feedback has praised the app’s speed, convenience, and the fact that it reduces dependency on agents, counters, and multiple apps. With every major function — from booking to food to feedback — now available at passengers’ fingertips, RailOne is expected to greatly enhance operational efficiency and user satisfaction.

Aligning with the spirit of Digital India
As the Government continues to push forward its flagship Digital India programme, RailOne stands out as a landmark example of how public service digitalisation can deliver tangible benefits to citizens. The app is not only efficient but also inclusive — designed to cater to passengers from all walks of life, across regions, devices, and levels of digital literacy.

With this bold initiative, Indian Railways has not just improved travel — it has raised the bar for digital public service delivery globally.
