India Signs ₹10,147 Crore Defence Contracts to Boost Artillery Firepower and Self-Reliance

These contracts mark a crucial milestone in the modernization of India’s artillery forces by introducing advanced rockets for the PINAKA Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS).

As part of the agreement, EEL will supply Area Denial Munition (ADM) Type-1 (DPICM) rockets, while MIL will provide High Explosive Pre-Fragmented (HEPF) Mk-1 (Enhanced) rockets. These advanced munitions are expected to significantly enhance the army’s capability to conduct precise and powerful strikes, extending their range of operations deep into enemy territory.

The ADM Type-1 rockets are equipped with specialized warheads that deliver sub-munitions over a large area, effectively targeting enemy mechanized forces, vehicles, and personnel while restricting their movement in critical zones. Meanwhile, the HEPF Mk-1 (Enhanced) rockets, an improved version of the existing HEPF rockets, offer an extended range, making them ideal for precise strikes behind enemy lines.

This procurement represents a significant advancement in modernizing India’s Artillery Rocket Regiments and aligns with the nation’s ongoing efforts to upgrade its defence infrastructure. The new rockets will enhance the Indian Army’s long-range precision strike capability, strengthening its effectiveness on the battlefield.

Additionally, the MoD has signed a contract with Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) for the upgrade of the SHAKTI software, further boosting the technological backbone of India’s defence operations.

Apart from improving national security, these projects are expected to create substantial job opportunities, especially within India’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector, which will be involved in manufacturing critical components. This initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to achieve self-reliance in defence production, with indigenous industries playing a key role in strengthening national security.

This strategic move highlights India’s unwavering commitment to building a robust, self-sufficient defence ecosystem and positions the country as a leading player in global defence technology, all while furthering the objectives of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat. ( With inputs from IANS)
